Join us for an adventure to observe wild horse herds living in their natural habitat.  The wild horses roam the open mountain range of the New Mexico’s Carson National Forest Wild Horse Territory.  These iconic American Mustangs are descendants of horses originally brought to North America by 14th century Spanish Conquistadors.  Some herds are remnants of the 19th century United States Calvary left behind after the Civil War.  Learn the history of the horse’s origination while visiting the Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory located approximately 60 miles east of Farmington, New Mexico.  Known for their intelligence and strength, the Mustang has survived with the black bear, mule deer, elk, bald eagles for centuries in the Carson.

ADVENTURE TOURS

Join us for an adventure to observe the Jicarilla-Carson wild horse herds living in their natural habitat.  The wild horses roam the open mountain range of the Jicarilla Apache Indian Wild Horse Territory of New Mexico’s Carson National Forest.  These iconic American Mustangs are descendants of horses originally brought to North America during the 14th century by Spanish Conquistadors.  Some herds are remnants of the 19th century United States Calvary left behind after the Civil War.  Learn the history of the horse’s origination while visiting the Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory located approximately 60 miles east of Farmington, New Mexico.  A horse fossil site located on the Navajo Indian Reservoir that borders the Jicarilla Wild Horse territory dates wild horse herd presence during the post Pleistocene and Pre-Columbian eras.  Known for their intelligence and strength, the Mustang has continued to live among pine, pinon, sage and cedar trees with the black bear, mule deer, elk, bald eagles and permitted livestock.  These wild horses can generally be viewed from dirt access roads and the designated camp areas.  Observation of the wilder herds require hiking the mountainous topography with elevations ranging from 6000 to 8000 feet.
